Golden Apollo is on a handy mark at presenmt and has been running well of late, so off bottom weight looks worth siding with at 3/1 in the 5.30 at Doncaster today.
This Tim Easterby trained four-year-old has has won once and been placed twice in starts over course and distance.
He was last successful in a competitive class 2 contest at Ascot back in
August 2017 when finishing off strongly to score by a length off a
rating of 95.
Golden Apollo has posted some solid efforts in defeat since when fifth
of 12 to Above The Rest over 7f and when doing all his best work at the
finish to be a 2 1/4 length fifth of 12 to Solar Flair over 6f at
Newcastle.
Golden Apollo was also when an excellent second of 14 to stable
companion Flying Pursuit in last year’s Sky Bet Dash at York off94 where
he made good headway from the rear to throw down a strong challenge
inside the last before being unable to find any extra close home.
He again ran well in that contest four starts back when fourth of 15 to the thriving Dakota Gold off 90 and when third of 16 to the unexposed Bielsa at Thirsk and fourth of 14 last tine out at Ascot.
Golden apollo is now able to race off 87 and receives weight from all his rivals over an extended 6f which should be ideal.
It gives him every chance from a handicapping perspective of belatedly getting his head back in front.
