Fresh from last week’s two major competitions at Hove – the Regency and Sussex Cup –  the focus turns to Monmore for the heats of the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic (630m) and Ladbrokes Gold Cup (480m).

We are seeing some of the best four-bend performers and some of the best six-bend performers, albeit not the winners from last week!

For the record Regency winner Mongys Wild, who racked up a 13th win in a row at Hove, heads next to Nottingham, while Sussex Cup hero Proper Heiress goes to Shelbourne Park, Dublin, for a crack at the Irish Derby.

However, the Regency runner-up Romeo Empire (7.22) does head to Monmore. He represents Derby-winning trainer Patrick Janssens in the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic and can strike gold in heat four in all-the-way style.

So to three other fancies at Monmore.

We are going for Richard Rees’s Deadly Disco (6.48) in his heat of the 630m event. He accounted for a good class field over six bends at Monmore in March and looks fresh after a break in heat two against another making comeback in Fabulous Heka.

Two picks in the Ladbrokes Gold Cup are Derby quarter-finalist Droopys Trade (8.31) for Team Janssens in heat two and David Mullins’ Brindle Bully (9.39) who might save the best for last in heat six after his fast trial workout last week.
