Now dropped back in class, Dustin Des Mottes looks worth a wager at 6/1 with Grosvenor Sport in the 3.40 at Newbury today.

This six-year-old was a four-time winner in France when trained by Francois Nicolle and after joining Dr Richard Newland ran a cracker on his second start last season when staying on strongly to go down by a diminishing 1/2 a length to Azzerti in a class 3 at Ascot off a mark of 132.

Although then not so good in his next two outings off his current rating of 133, they came in Grade 3 contests and he wasn’t totaly disgraced in the last of those over course and distance when a plugging on 11 1/2 length sixth of 16 to San Benedeto in the Greatwood Gold Cup.

This class 3 affair respresents a return to calmer water and Dustin Des Mottes appeals at the type that will do better this season and win some decent races for his handler.

I don’t think that his mark of 133 is beyond him and the 2m 4f trip and ground are fine.

This race also doesn’t look the strongest for the grade, so with further improvement on the cards it looks a nice opportunity for Dustin Des Mottes of open his account in the UK.

THE BET recommended bet: 2pts win Dustin Des Mottes (6/1 generally available – use BIG firms and Grovenor Sport)
